Recycling:
- USC collects over 20 different types of materials for recycling, equating
to 3,600 tons annually.
- The University composts 100 pounds of organic material daily.
- The University generates over 10,400 cubic yards of uncompacted trash monthly.
- The University recycles over 1,580 cubic yards of mixed paper annually.
- Over 4,100 recycling bins have been distributed to the USC campus for
paper and aluminum.
- In addition to recycled materials, the University spends over $250,000
annually to collect and dispose of trash.
Utility Services:
- On a typical day the University consumes approximately 1.2 million gallons of water.
- Utility Services maintains approximately 16,000 tons in refrigeration and
A/C units across campus which is enough to supply approximately 4,000 average sized homes.
- It costs the University approximately $11.5 million annually to meet the heating,
cooling, lighting and water needs to the university campus.
- The University consumes enough electricity annually to supply approximately 11,000
average sized residential homes.
- The University generates over 340 million pounds of steam each year to provide
building heat and hot water.
- The University has over 10 miles of underground steam, condensate and
chilled water piping across campus.
- The University has about 9 miles of underground high voltage
electrical cable across campus.
Facility Maintenance:
- Approximately 60,000 locks are maintained campus wide by the University.
- Approximately 80,000 keys have been issued to University Personnel.
