Landscaping and Environmental
Services prime responsibilities are to provide and
maintain a safe and attractive campus environment that
helps promote the University's mission of education, research, and
community support.
The role of the Landscaping Services is to maintain
and improve the landscape and hardscape elements of all
Educational and Auxiliary facilities on the Columbia Campus. The
department's maintenance program cares for all outdoor
areas on the Columbia campus and includes: turf areas,
hardscape (roads, walks, drives, plaza's, etc.), tree
& shrub care, ornamental beds, outdoor amenities,
etc. Landscaping staff also are responsible for litter
and trash removal from outdoor areas and irrigation
system maintenance. The department also supports
numerous University special events throughout the year.
Environmental Services is responsible for the
collection of recyclables, trash and other non-hazardous
wastes for the Columbia campus, Pest Control, hardscape
repair, and litter removal. Our operations include the
coordination of the collection of over 30 recyclable
items, implementing waste reduction measures and
composting of food and yard waste. Environmental
Services also manages the trash collection contract for
the Columbia campus and the Medical School. The
department also encourages the purchase of recycled
content supplies, building materials and equipment and
the reuse of items such as office furniture, scrap paper
and thermal coffee mugs. We also provide education to
the campus about recycling and waste issues.
